The guardrails are built in, not bolted on.
Vehicle advertising rules move, and the UAE has tightened consumer-protection and data-protection law substantially since 2020. We track them so your team does not have to hold them in their head.
More usefully: most of what those rules require is enforced by the platform itself. Not a checklist we hand you, not a policy you have to remember on a busy Saturday. The system will not produce the copy in the first place. Here is exactly what that means.
What the platform enforces
The guardrails, specifically
Each of these is mechanical: a rule the generator cannot break, arithmetic instead of a language model, or a value the database will not accept.
One price, on every surface
- At signup, every showroom attests that the price in their feed is the price a buyer pays, and states whether it is inclusive of 5% VAT. That VAT status publishes alongside the price, never silently assumed.
- That single number publishes as structured data everywhere we put your inventory. There is no drift between your listing pages and the syndication feeds, because they all read the same field.
Claims that cannot outrun the facts
- AI-written listing copy may use only verified facts from your feed and the VIN decode. It cannot invent specs, history, prices, or market figures.
- Warranty is computed from the vehicle age and mileage, never restated from the original terms. A listing cannot imply factory coverage that has already run out.
- A market comparison appears only when live market data supports it, and the comparison set is described accurately. A UAE-wide set is never called a Dubai set.
- Claims about rival models must be backed by real market data and attributed as asking-price comparisons, never stated as bare fact.
Payment figures, stated with their assumptions
- A monthly instalment is a credit claim, not a marketing line. The model that writes your listing copy is barred from stating a payment, a term, a down payment or a rate, so a finance figure cannot reach your page through generated copy at all.
- Every payment number on the platform is deterministic arithmetic you can audit line by line, never model output.
- Where a payment is displayed, its assumptions travel with it: the rate, the term, the down payment, that it is subject to bank approval, and which bank or lender the terms come from.
- Payment display on vehicle detail pages is switched off on purpose while we finish the disclosure work. We would rather hold a feature back than put an instalment on your page without the disclosure it deserves.
Your real bank terms, one vocabulary
- Finance profiles come from one fixed vocabulary shared by every surface, so the same words mean the same thing on your listings, your feeds, and your leads. No invented tiers.
- Instalments book from your own bank or lender rate sheet once it is configured and you have confirmed the parsed values. A malformed sheet is rejected whole rather than half-applied, so a listing never quotes a term no bank will actually write.
Why this matters right now
Consumer protection is federal, and it covers advertising.
Federal Law No. 15 of 2020 on Consumer Protection, administered by the Ministry of Economy, requires that goods are described accurately, that the price a consumer is told is the price they pay, and that advertising is not misleading. A vehicle listing is advertising. The same standard applies whether a shopper reads it on your site, on a marketplace, or inside an AI answer.
VAT is part of the price a buyer sees.
The UAE applies 5% VAT to most vehicle sales by a registered business. A price shown to a consumer should make clear whether it includes VAT; a figure that turns out to be 5% higher at the desk is the kind of surprise consumer-protection rules exist to prevent. VIN Index carries the VAT status next to every price rather than leaving it implied.
The moment a payment appears, a second discipline applies.
Bank finance in the UAE is arranged with the bank, subject to its approval, and on its terms. A monthly instalment quoted in an advertisement is only honest if the rate, term, down payment and approval condition sit next to it. This is where otherwise careful showrooms get caught, because an instalment feels like marketing rather than a credit disclosure.
The practices consumer-protection authorities target
- advertising a price that does not include every mandatory fee
- advertising a price that quietly excludes VAT without saying so
- advertising a price built on a discount not available to all buyers
- advertising a price that quietly assumes a required down payment
- conditioning the advertised price on the buyer using a particular finance arrangement
- requiring add-on products that are not in the advertised price
Your emirate
Each emirate layers its own vehicle registration, testing and dealer-licensing requirements on top of the federal floor: the RTA in Dubai, the Integrated Transport Centre in Abu Dhabi, and the equivalent authorities elsewhere. This page does not attempt an emirate-by-emirate survey. Treat your own emirate’s rules as the stricter number and check them with counsel.
Data protection
The UAE Personal Data Protection Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021) governs how a lead may be collected, stored, used and transferred. Every inquiry a VIN Index page captures is personal data of the buyer: it goes to you, on the basis that the buyer asked to be contacted, and we keep only what is needed to deliver it and prove it was delivered. Showrooms in a free zone with its own data-protection regime, such as the DIFC or ADGM, may have additional obligations.
What stays yours
You choose the price you publish. You decide your fees, your add-ons, and how you advertise everywhere else.
VIN Index is not a compliance vendor. We do not audit your advertising, monitor your other channels, or vouch for your showroom.
What we do is narrower and, we think, more useful: the surfaces we control will not generate a claim your facts do not support.
This page is information about how our platform behaves, not legal advice. Rules change and vary by emirate and by free zone. Check your own obligations with counsel.
